The Bell Tower of the Church of Boris and Gleb (Kideksha)

After Vladimir, and after seeing the beautiful Church of the intercession on the Nerl, we made our way to the pretty village of Suzdal. Maxime, our Couchsurfing host was kind enough to lend us his bikes, thanks to which we could explore not just Suzdal, but even the outskirts.

So we got a little adventurous and decided to bike out of town and to the neighboring town of Kideksha.

The road from Suzdal to Kideksha

Seven kilometers and 34 odd minutes later, we found ourselves at the Church of Boris and Gleb. We locked our bikes to the fence. Unfortunately the church was closed due to renovation work, but we walked around the compound. There wasn’t a soul in sight, and we had the whole place to ourselves. A handful of visitors did show up later, but other than that, there was pin drop silence.

Church of Boris and Gleb

This 12th century limestone church, dedicated to Boris and Gleb, was commissioned by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky and is one of the oldest in the Vladimir region. Almost 900 years old!

On our way back, we had a flat tire. Two super cool locals, Alex and Dima, who did not know a single word of English, came to our rescue. But that story, later!
